Mold can grow in nearly any location where the conditions are right.  It is important to know that if you can see it or smell it then there is most likely mold in the home.  When searching for good locations to use your MOLDetect test kit, it is recommended that you check areas with high humidity levels, previous water damage, or musty odors.

The appearance of mold may be black, white, gray, yellow, green or even nearly invisible unless you look very closely.  Any of these colors of mold may be toxic.  A recommended way to check for mold is to shine a flashlight along the surface of an area that has been wet or damp. 

Where to look:

• Rooms with water are especially perfect breeding grounds for mold especially toxic mold.
• Unfinished wooden surfaces such as the undersides of furniture.
• Crawl spaces that have not been properly maintained and/or have high humidity levels.
• Underside of carpet that has been wet. 
• HVAC Systems (furnace filter check)
• Ceiling tiles
